About the Organiser

Socio-Legal Review (SLR) is a peer-reviewed, bi-annual open-access journal. SLR is published by the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru and encourages interdisciplinary research at the intersection of law and social sciences. It has been in publication since 2005.

About the Opportunity

SLR is currently inviting submissions for Volume 20(1) of the journal. SLR seeks to publish scholarship that critically enquires the intersections between the law and the social sciences.

SLR particularly invites articles from diverse disciplines and areas of study engaging with law which might be, but not limited to, ethnographic and anthropological studies of the everyday workings of the law, history of the law, decolonial and Marxist perspectives toward the law, public policy and planning, religion and minority studies, and so on.

Themes

We invite articles from diverse disciplines and areas of study that engage with the law including but not limited to:

  • ethnographic and anthropological studies of the everyday working of the law
  • legal history and historical analyses of the law and legal institutions
  • decolonial, poscolonial, Marxist, feminist, queer, class, anti-caste, and critical race studies perspectives toward the law
  • social movements, and the law as a catalyst or impediment for social transformation
  • public policy and planning, regulation, and governance and administration
  • study of legal institutions, systems and cultures, and institutional reform
  • pedagogy, legal methods, and the intersection of legal theory and social/political theory
  • identity, migration and citizenship studies
  • environmental, land, and urban studies
  • religion and minority studies
  • bioethics, medico-legal, healthcare, and disability studies
  • civil society, human rights, and socio-economic welfare
  • criminal law, criminology, and law and justice
  • law and the humanities, including literature, theatre, film, media studies, literary criticism,
    philosophy, and so on.

Roles and Responsibilities

Contributors to SLR are expected to present their findings in a clear, concise manner.

Eligibility Criteria

All authors who have original research that fall within the journal’s focus are invited to submit. Academics, students, and practitioners can contribute to the Forum.
