Tell us about the infrastructure of your law college
The law college offers a mixed yet overall positive infrastructure experience. Classrooms are equipped with air conditioners, although many are non-functional. The moot court hall also has multiple air conditioners, but they are rarely operational. The library is a peaceful and resourceful space for study, with access to a wide range of books.
Additionally, the faculty provides a book bank system where students can borrow books at a low cost for an entire year. A major advantage is access to the Maulana Azad Library which is Asia’s largest university library. It serves as an invaluable academic resource.
The computer lab is well maintained, with air conditioners in working condition. Hostel accommodation is provided at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Hall, which includes two buildings for male law students. The annual hostel fee is just ₹3,000, and each room comfortably houses 2–3 students.
Recreational and fitness facilities include a gymnasium, badminton and basketball courts, as well as grounds for football and cricket. The reading room stands out for its peaceful environment and is well-equipped with ample seating, lighting, charging points, and functional air conditioning. Considering the low overall cost, the infrastructure deserves a solid 4 out of 5.
How are the academic culture and faculty in your college?
The academic environment at the college is structured and rigorous, with a clear focus on discipline and long-term career preparation. Official class timings are from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, though classes typically conclude by 1:30 PM, with the remaining time reserved for extra sessions when necessary.
The faculty comprises 12 professors, 10 assistant professors, and 3 guest lecturers. Most faculty members are highly knowledgeable and supportive, encouraging students to apply critical thinking and logic in their academic work. Answer scripts are evaluated with strict educational standards, but constructive feedback promotes intellectual development.
Attendance is strictly monitored, with a minimum requirement of 75%.The course structure is designed to prepare students effectively for judiciary examinations, a common goal among the student body.
In terms of assessments, students undergo a combination of class tests, tutorial exams, end-term exams, projects, and viva voce for each subject. The first-year curriculum includes six subjects (4 credits each) and a 2-credit Grand Viva, which tests students on overall comprehension rather than rote learning.
While the academic culture can be demanding, it infuses discipline, time management, and resilience. Based on these aspects, the educational environment earns a strong 4.5 out of 5.

The peer environment in the B.A. LL.B. program is intellectually engaging and socially conscious. Admission to the course is through a competitive entrance examination, which ensures that students entering the program are academically capable and serious about a career in law.
Classmates are generally driven, supportive, and cooperative. There is a strong sense of community, and students are often willing to help one another academically and otherwise.
Many peers are actively involved in discussions around constitutional values, human rights, and social justice, contributing to a thoughtful and informed campus culture. Considering these aspects, the peer quality deserves a 4 out of 5.
Tell us about the co-curricular and extra-curricular activities
The Department of Law offers a decent range of co-curricular and extra-curricular opportunities through various societies and student-led initiatives. Notable societies include the Law Society, ADR Society, Moot Court Society, Debate and Discussion Society, Environment Awareness Society, Networking and Media Society, Editorial Board, and Legal Aid Society.
These platforms provide students with opportunities to engage in academic, legal, and social discourse beyond the classroom. The hostel organizes its own annual fest, Justicia, adding to the social and cultural life of the students. Additionally, the university supports legacy clubs such as the University Debate and Literature Club and the Riding Club, which contribute to a broader extracurricular culture.
While the opportunities are meaningful, the frequency of activities could be more extensive and consistent. Based on current offerings and student participation, the co-curricular and extra-curricular environment is rated at 3.5 out of 5.
How are the placements in your college?
Placement and internship support at the Faculty of Law, Aligarh Muslim University is moderate. A large portion of students are focused on preparing for judiciary examinations, which means that fewer students prioritize building their CVs or actively seeking placements during the course.
While the department has a placement cell and has recently collaborated with organizations like Vedanta to offer high-paying job opportunities, such cases are limited. Internship support is minimal, with no mandatory requirement to maintain records or reports of internships except in the final year.
The academic calendar also lacks sufficient breaks, making it difficult for students to pursue internships without compromising attendance.
That said, students who take initiative can secure valuable internships independently. The strength of the college’s alumni network features successful judges, lawyers, and in-house counsels worldwide which adds long-term value and potential career support. Overall, placement support is present but requires active effort from students, earning a rating of 3 out of 5.
How are the hostels in your college?
The hostel facilities at the college are well-maintained and offer a secure and supportive living environment. There are separate hostels for male and female students, each with proper security arrangements that ensure student safety and peace of mind.
Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Hall serves as the hostel for male law students and comprises two buildings. The rooms are spacious enough to accommodate 2 to 3 students comfortably, with an annual fee of just ₹3,000 which makes it highly affordable. The hostel premises include a reading room with a calm atmosphere, adequate lighting, charging points, and functional air conditioning.
Recreational facilities such as a gymnasium, basketball and badminton courts, and football and cricket grounds are also available, promoting a balanced student life. The dining hall provides nutritious, good-quality food, and the hostel staff is known to be cooperative and responsive to student needs. Considering the affordability and range of facilities provided, the hostels deserve a strong rating of 4.5 out of 5.
What are the best things you like about your college?
One of the standout features of the college is its affordability. The low fees make quality legal education accessible to a wide range of students. The student community is another strong point, marked by high motivation, healthy competition, and a shared drive for success, particularly in fields like the judiciary.
Peers are not only academically focused but also uphold strong moral and human values, often engaging in discussions and actions that reflect constitutional awareness and social responsibility.
In your opinion, what are bad things about your college?
The college does not focus much on corporate law or provide substantial practical exposure. Additionally, administrative issues can take time to be addressed.

If you’re interested in pursuing a career in the judiciary, this department is a strong option. The residential academy has consistently shown good results over the years.
