About the Conference
Saveetha School of Law, a constituent of Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences (SIMATS), Chennai, is proud to host a landmark Two-Day National Conference on the New Criminal Laws of 2023, under the theme “Challenges and Opportunities for the Bench & Bar”, on 28th and 29th July 2025. This timely academic event is organized by the Department of Criminal Law to address the recent and transformative changes introduced in the Indian criminal justice system.
The conference is set against the backdrop of the enactment of three pivotal legislations—the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023—which have replaced the historic Indian Penal Code (1860), the Code of Criminal Procedure (1973), and the Indian Evidence Act (1872), respectively. These sweeping legal reforms signal a new chapter in India’s criminal justice framework, making it imperative for legal professionals, students, and scholars to engage deeply with the implications and execution of the new laws.
The conference aims to offer a deep academic and practical dive into the structural overhaul of India’s criminal laws. Through expert lectures, panel discussions, and interactive workshops, it seeks to bridge the knowledge gap between traditional legal norms and contemporary reforms. The event is especially designed for law students (UG & PG), research scholars, academicians, and legal practitioners.
